"Give Me Love" - Ed Sheeran

Love or Lust?
What is love? I'm not the first person besides Haddaway to ask that question.  Love is defined as "an emotion of a strong affection and personal attachment."  But are there two kinds of love?  Romantic love, and just plain old "I love my Mum and dog" kind of love?  I have suspicions that what some people would call "love" is actually just plain old lust.

Lust, dear friend of mine. Urban Dictionary (who is obviously a  credible and legit source), defines lust as, "often confused with love, it is purely physical attraction and has no lasting effect."  Interesting.  That might explain why 40% of marriages today end in divorce? Just sayin'..  Don't hate the player people, hate the game.

This is your brain on love
When we are attracted to someone our brain triggers the release of certain chemicals, including Dopamine, which gives you that dopey smiley feeling, and Norepinephrine, which produces adrenaline and makes your heart beat faster.  Chemically these feelings subside over time.  So is "true love" really just a chemical reaction or does is exist?

Give Ed Sheeran lust, not love
It's our human instinct, and in our nature to want to "reproduce."  When we drink we lose our inhibitions and our basic instincts take over (read: booty calls).  I like, "Give Me Love" by Ed Sheeran almost entirely for this one line of the song, "Maybe tonight I'll call ya, after my blood turns into alcohol." I should inscribe this on a business card that I can distribute, and have it as an auto-reply to text message anytime that I'm drinking.
When I drink, like many people, I've been known to mistake a bad decision for a great decision, or love for lust.  After all, falling in lust sounds way less complicated and scary.

I shaazamed this beauty of a song from a Victoria Secret's commercial of all places.  Which I think is the ultimate irony,  as those angels are nothing if not symbols of lust.  What's most suprising about Sheeran is that he is almost too young to know about love or lust,  at the golden age of only 21.  He hit it big back in 2011 with his single, "The A Team",  and has since experienced huge success and critical acclaim.  I like that you hear just the faintest hint of an accent when he's wailing along to his guitar. In conclusion, I think that if you give the lyrics a read you will realize that Ed should have actually called the song, "Give Me Lust."

Give me love like her,
'Cause lately I've been waking up alone
Paint spotted tear drops on my shirt,
told you'd let them go

And i'll fight my corner
Maybe tonight i'll call ya,
After my blood turns into alcohol
No I just wanna hold ya,

Give me a little time to me, we'll burn this out,
We'll play hide an seek, to turn this around,
All I want is the taste that your lips allow,

my my, my my oh give me love
my my, my my oh give me love
my my, my my oh give me love
my my, my my oh give me love
my my, my my give me love

Give me love like never before,

'Cause lately I've been craving more
And it's been awhile but i still feel the same,
Maybe I should let you go

You know i'll fight my corner,
And that tonight i'll call ya,
After my blood, is drowning in alcohol,
No i just wanna hold ya,

Give a little time to me, we'll burn this out,
we'll play hide and seek, to turn this around,
All I want is the taste that your lips allow,

my my, my my oh give me love
my my, my my oh give me love
my my, my my oh give me love
my my, my my oh give me love
my my, my my give me love

my my, my my, oh, give me love, lover (x12)

Of all the money that e'er I had
I've spent it in good company
And all the harm that e'er I've done
Alas it was to none but me
And all I've done for want of wit
To memory now I can't recall
So fill to me the parting glass
Good night and joy be with you all

Of all the comrades that e'er I had
They are sorry for my going away
And all the sweethearts that e'er I had
They would wish me one more day to stay
But since it falls unto my lord
That i should rise and you should not
I"ll gently rise and softly call
Good night be joy be with you all

A man may drink and not be drunk
A man may fight and not be slain
A man may court a pretty girl
and perhaps be welcomed back again
But since it has so ordered been
By a time to rise and a time to fall
Come fill to me the parting glass
Goodnight and joy be with you all
Goodnight and joy be with you all
