"Wet Sand" - Red Hot Chili Peppers

9th Studio Album from RCHP
"Wet Sand" is the second song that I have ever blogged about. Recently I've decided to come back and update this post because I didn't feel I'd done it any justice. This is hands down my favorite Red Hot Chili Peppers song. That's saying alot because I am a huge fan of those dirty boys. "Wet Sand" debuted on RCHP'S 9th studio album, Stadium Arcadium. The album won the band 7 Grammy nods - the most they had received in their entire career to date. The song's on this album are quite different and more mature than the previous funky pop/punk material that the boys  had previously put out.  The whole album is amazing but some other notable songs are "Hard to Concentrate" and "Snow(Hey Oh)"

Anthony Kiedis & John Frusciante
The songs' title was one that former RHCP guitarist, John Frusciante originally came up with for one of his own solo songs. Frontman - Anthony Kiedis,  told Frusciante how much he loved the title and John insisted they use it for a Chili Pepper song instead.

"You don't form in the wet sand"
Lyrically - this song is poetic and beautiful,  literally - it is very hard to comprehend what the lyrics mean. When asked about the song Kiedis said it was, "about a complicated, dysfunctional woman I've fallen in love with." In the song Kiedis compares the dysfunctionality of the woman to legendary hot mess, Marilyn Monroe (aka Norma Jean), "The disrepair of Norma Jean, Could not compare to your routine." Keidis construes the Woman as beautiful but complicated. Beauty does not come without insecurity,  in my favorite line of the song the woman seems to be jealous of Keidis' naivety and happiness,  "My love affair with everywhere, Was innocent why do you care?" It seems he is comparing his relationship to "wet sand", and alluding to the fact that you can make something solid and structured out of wet sand, whereas dry sand will just slip between your fingers. Deep I know. This song is an excellent example of what an amazing lyricist Kiedis is.

My shadow side so amplified
Keeps coming back dissatisfied
Elementary son but it's so...

My love affair with everywhere
Was innocent why do you care
Someone start the car
Time to go... You're the best I know

My sunny side has up and died
I'm betting that when we collide
The universe will shift into a low

The travesties that we have seen
Are treating me like Benzedrine
Automatic laughter from a pro

My, what a good day for a, walk outside
I'd like to get to know you a little better, baby,
God knows that I really tried

My, what a good day
For a take out bride
I'd like to say we
did it for the better of

I saw you there so unaware
Those hummingbirds all in your hair
Elementary, son, but it's so

The disrepair of Norma Jean
Could not compare to your routine
Balarama beauty going toe to toe

My, what a good day
Just to let it slide
I'd like to say we did it for the better of

I thought about it
and I brought it out
I'm motivated by the lack of doubt
I'm consecrated but I'm not devout
The mother, the father, the daughter, yeah

Right on the verge, just one more dose
I'm traveling from coast to coast
My theory isn't perfect, but it's close

I'm almost there, why should I care
My heart is hurting when I share
Someone open up and
let it show

My, what a good day
for a walk outside
I'd like to think we did it for the better of

I thought about it and I brought it out
I'm motivated by the lack of doubt
I'm consecrated, but I'm not devout
The mother, the father, the daughter- Oh

You don't form in the wet sand,
You don't form at all- Whoa
You don't form in the wet sand,
I do- Yeah...
You don't form in the wet sand,
You don't form at all- Whoa
You don't form in the wet sand,

I do! YEAH!!!!!!!!!

  1. This is my all time favorite RHCP song too. I totally associate the lyrics to when kids try to build castles on wet sand and they just doesn't form. Kiedis had such an intense way to communicate whatever he was feeling, and even though I've heard this song a million times, I'm still intricate about those lyrics. Hope we can talk about it anytime soon!
